Not to mention film making…Grand Rapids has been home recently to many independent film productions. The people of the city welcome the productions by showing up to be stand- ins, sometimes even in the middle of the night!
Grand Rapids offers many festivals from the yearly Celebration of the Arts to music festivals and delicious food festivals celebrating all types ethnicity. Pretty much any weekend in the summertime you can plan on having a fun outdoor festival to attend!
Looking to take in a concert or sports event? All you have to do is head downtown to the Van Andel Arena, home of the Grand Rapids Griffins hockey team and venue for many outstanding concerts by top named artists such as Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift and Keith Urban, to mention just a few who have performed here in 2011.
Enjoy the safety of the city as you walk from shop to shop, to the Amway Grand Plaza hotel, the JW Marriott, Rosa Parks Circle, Monroe Center or to one of the many outstanding restaurants downtown has to offer with the view of the Grand River as the back drop. It’s a friendly city with charm, character and heartbeat!
Grand Rapids is proud to be home to President Gerald R. Ford, our nation’s 38th President, and the Gerald R. Ford Museum on the Grand River. Home as well to the “medical mile” which offers world class health care and a fabulous zoo just west of downtown; John Ball Park Zoo.
Whether you live right downtown in one of the many hip urban housing condominiums or in one of Grand Rapids many lovely neighborhoods you are never far from the action! Not to mention close to the “big lake” — Lake Michigan — and all its beauty. You can get to the lake for swimming, sunning, boating and fishing in about 30 minutes — perfect for a summer outing!
